After a busy spring, while the Corporalis Commodis website remains under development and the current discussion is still taking place on Discord, it is nonetheless important to draw brief attention to the condition of the strategic reserves.
We are likely not far from reaching a point where reserve levels become low enough to trigger serious concern across the broader market. The administration’s continued efforts to promote the prospect of a peace agreement may temporarily calm sentiment, but they ultimately appear to be delaying an unavoidable market correction. At the same time, the prolonged semi-annual consolidation across precious metals markets also appears increasingly mature, suggesting the potential for a broader repricing cycle across commodities and hard assets.
What makes the current situation particularly concerning is the pace at which the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, illustrated further below, is now being depleted. After a prolonged period of relative stability in weekly stock changes throughout 2023, 2024, and most of 2025, where fluctuations largely remained close to neutral, the trend shifted dramatically in early 2026. Weekly drawdowns accelerated toward negative 9.2 million barrels, representing one of the sharpest declines visible within the broader five-year period and now materially exceeding the pace observed during the 2022 drawdown cycle, both in terms of speed and total net weekly declines.
Importantly, newly released data today appears to confirm that this trend is not stabilising. The latest reported (today due to holiday delay) weekly decline of approximately 9.06 million barrels follows directly after the prior week’s near-record 9.92 million barrel drawdown, reinforcing the view that reserve depletion is continuing at an exceptionally aggressive pace. The transition from long-term stability to rapid depletion is striking and suggests that intervention efforts have intensified materially within a relatively short period of time. With a snap of a finger, literally.
